Sunday was yet another lively gathering of some of our Japanese movie buffs and also those totally unknown to this amazing wonderland of creativity.

Kimi no na wa, a Japanese anime romantic fantasy drama film directed, written, cinematographed, and edited by Makoto Shinkai, left our curious viewers fully mesmerized by the almost unearthly art and animation of this extraordinary Japanese coming-of-age tale that packs a whole punch of  body-swap comedy, time-travel romance, and adventure film.

Kimi no na wa became a huge commercial success, especially in Japan, where it grossed ¥23 billion (~US$190 million). The film achieved the second largest gross for a domestic film in Japan, behind Spirited Away, and the fourth largest ever, behind Titanic and Frozen. It is the first anime not directed by Hayao Miyazaki to earn more than $100 million (~¥10 billion) at the Japanese box office. It topped the box office in Japan for a record-breaking 12 non-consecutive weekends.
