Studying in JAPAN

Dear All,

こんにちは!Hello!

Before I start with the prime contents of this article, please allow me to introduce myself!

gutspose_manI am Gaurav Kulkarni, currently working as bilingual in a JMNC called Topre India Private Limited. I am trying to be an Amdavadi since last about 3.5 years, when I started milling around this wonderful city, having relocated myself all the way from a small town called Satara in Maharashtra.

Honestly saying, before 7-8 years, when I was struggling to find a correct path for my career, if someone would have told me that I will be in Japan for a year, and will be having a full-fledged career in Japanese language, I would have certainly made a great mockery of that person.

However, credit goes to all my teachers back in Pune, Anagha Shrikhande, as only because of her I took this path up seriously and could build a moderate foundation, as well as all the teachers from Dept. of Foreign Languages, University of Pune, who had stood back strongly with me all these years.

While teachers obviously play a vital role in your careers, I feel that it is very important to work extremely hard in our initial stage, to start getting the fruits from what you have mowed.

pose_kandou_manI was one of the luckiest people, as I got an opportunity to go to Japan on scholarships, 2 times in total when I was a student. It still surprises me that how I managed to get all these scholarships, since there is an intense competition for these scholarships, and I was certainly not the academic geek who had topped, and scored excellent marks all the time.

pose_namida_koraeru_manI feel saddened as I hardly see any students studying Japanese language in Ahmedabad, or for that matter from Gujarat state, in spite of having so dynamic & huge (probably highest in India) Japanese industry. The Japanese industry here is in dire need of strong local bilingual professionals, who can support them both technically and administratively to build their base in Indian market, this state being a key player. I see that this is a rare situation where the market demand is far more than the supply!

I have also observed that this is happening because many of the Japanese learners or enthusiasts are not quite aware about the opportunities which are supported by Japanese government to go and learn in Japan, and most of them end up being either half-trained bilinguals or opting for technical fields, and start to struggle when they actually take up a job in Japanese industry.

pikapika_haNow, since I have proved that I am an Indian by giving this huge introduction and boasting all this about myself (because no Japanese will ever do that, I am almost certain about this), I feel that I should share the opportunities which any Indian student, enrolled or graduated from any Govt. university (Deemed to be university students are not preferred by Japanese govt., though, there are some exceptions), where one is willing to go to Japan and do his/her graduation, P.G., research, or even Ph.D from a Japanese university.

Below is an introduction of 3 major scholarships provided by Govt. of Japan (MEXT – Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). All these scholarships come with lucrative perks, such as 100% exemption in tuition fees, round trip (to & fro India) air-fare, and quite a lot of stipend (more than what a Japanese national gets as scholarship, and as pocket money) for covering your monthly expenses!

I would recommend this scholarship for only those who are willing to take up the job in Japan, or willing to devote themselves in hardcore researcher profile. I am stating this, as this requires a comparatively high level of Japanese studies, and you may not use it to the fullest in other countries outside of Japan (of course, exceptions!).

Apart from the above scholarships, there are many more scholarships awarded by Japanese govt. in various fields. You can refer to the link http://www.studyjapan.go.jp/en/index.html which covers almost all the scholarships.

pose_furikaeru_manI will try to explore further and add some more information about other scholarships as well through this great platform.

Coming to an end of this article, I will also advice that whoever opts for these scholarships, please keep your focus on studies. During your tenure in Japan, you will come across unaccountable attractions which will definitely divert your mind from studies. I completely understand that enjoying, relaxing is important from rigorous schedule and studies, but, do not forget that Japan govt. is providing stipend to us from the hard-earned money of Japanese taxpayers. Thus, not utilizing it with utmost responsibility not only hampers your own reputation, but it also affects the image of India as a country, since you are representing the whole nation!

Sorry for keeping up with me till the end!

All the very best and buckle up for these wonderful opportunities!

Please feel free to contact me if you want any specific details!

Thanks,

Gaurav Kulkarni
